January 26
Cloudy and some warmer. Did the ironing and traded with the huxter. Patched this afternoon. Rained most all day. Had a general pour down awhile ago, with lots of thunder and lightning.
January 25
Big frost and rather cool, but the sun is shinning and will warm up. Did the washing and shelled some soup beans. Wrote a letter and read this evening.
January 24
Went to Sunday-school and Esther came home with us. Raymond and Wanda came out this afternoon. George Miller was here this p.m. Shelby Mabel and Larona Capes were here late this evening and stayed for supper. They rode with us to church. Mr. Heller was there and preached tonight.
January 23
Cleaned the house and did the usual work. The men dug out the apples and cabbage and put them in the cellar. The folks stopped as they went home, awhile.
January 22
Canned eight more quarts of beef. Did some patching and read the papers. Rained all morning. Mashino's bought five dozen eggs of us to set in their incubator.
January 21
Canned twenty-six and one-half quarts of beef. Went to church tonight and was at Wanda's awhile afterwords. Raining but didn't stop us.
January 20
Helped to do the milking this morning. Did the ironing and some patching. Helped cut up a quarter of beef, so we could soak it tonight.
January 19
Did the washing this morning. Read this evening. The boys butchered the beef. Also killed Old Fannie. Another day of sunshine.
January 18
Sun shinning bright and the birds are singing. Did some patching and read the rest of the day.
January 17
Rained until noon. Went to Sunday School, then took some dinner and went to Grandpa Perry's to celebrate his 73rd birthday. Went to church tonight.
January 16
Still rainy with a cold last wind. Did the usual Saturday's work. read the following in today's paper: The boys went swimming near Auburn N.Y. Dandelions yellowed the Boston scene. Bass were biting in lake Chautauqua, N.Y. Uniontown, Pa., had a baseball game. Sap flowed from mid-western maples. Bees went to work in Ontario. And in Elko, Nev. it was thirty-five degrees below zero.
January 15
Did some more patching. Went to church tonight. The North Vernon pastor preached. It's getting colder.
January 14
Washed the boys sweaters. Patched on Ora's old jacket, most of afternoon. Went to the woods in time to come back with Ora. It is very, very hot haven't had any fire in heating-stove since early this morning. Raining very hard tonight. Lots of thunder and lightning.
January 13
Did some patching and several odd jobs. went to church tonight. Ora helped Mashino butcher his beef, this afternoon. Kenneth visited Grandpa while we went to church.
January 12
Did the ironing this morning. Patched and put away the clothes. Has rained all day, and is yet and the wind in beginning to howl.
January 11
Did the washing this morning. Went to North Vernon, to the Dr. this afternoon. Sara and Bob were here all day.
January 9
Carrie White, Velma and Dean were here awhile this morning. Cleaned all the house up and did the usual Saturday's work.
January 8
Cooked dinner for the shredders. Carrie helped, but we only had nine men. Did a large ironing this afternoon. Read in the paper about C.H. Stewart's death.
January 7
Cold packed fourteen quats of ribs and back bone. Kenneth took the tractor and buzz saw and buzzed wood for Akins. I worked in the hen house this p.m. Did some patching this evening.
January 6
Did a large washing. The rest rendered lard. Grandpa Perry was down awhile this morning. Bill Ringer was down to see about the wood cutting for Frank Akins. We cooked ten quarts of tenderloin. Still doctoring the sick cow.
January 5
Helped to grind sausage. Mixed and firied ti down, and had seventeen quarts. Had to call Doc. Shuman for old Stell again. Mr. and Mrs. Hunnicutt and Bill were over a while tonight. Rained most all day.
January 4
Butchered two hogs this morning. Kenneth called Doc. Shuman for old Stell. She has the milk fever. I have a headache so am gong to bed early. This was dad's birthday. He was seventy-three years old.
January 3
Went to Sunday-school and church and C. G. Simmons took new office as supertendant. Ora and I ate dinner by ourselves. The folks were at Wanda's. Carrie and Bill came this p.m. Also Ed, Lula, Aunt Nannie, Uncle Gap; Wanda and Raymond. Ruth returned to New Albany this p.m. and is starting to Business College in the morning.
January 2
Dad and mamma, Uncle Josh and I went to Sara's today. Uncle has a very bad cold tonight. Read in the "Plain Dealer" about Nick getting a divorce from Rena.
JANUARY 1, 1932
Ernest Tracy and family and Uncle Josh were here today. Uncle is staying until Sunday. Velma was here also. A rainy day and very warm. Going to bed early as I was up until one o'clock last night.
