July 21

Cleaned and washed the berries I picked yesterday. Washed the cans. Put kettles of beets on to cook. Helped to can 20 qts. of B. berries and 10 1/2 qts. beets. Sure was a hot day. Ora sowed buckwheat.

July 20

Picked 1 gal. berries in garden. Did the ironing. Mama P., Emma and I picked berries in our woods this afternoon. Took a bath in salts water tonite.

july 19

Did the washing. Went to Hayden this P.M. to get corn cracked for chickens. Worked in garden. Dampened clothes. Mable and Shelby moved to the Crawford farm down by Seymour.

July 18

Did mornings work. Cleaned off chick coops and roosts. Plowed navy beans. Mowed the yard. Dug potatoes. Took milk and all went to Violets surprise. She was 19. Had cream and cake.

July 17

Went to S. S. Violet, Velma to Emma went with us. Ken took mama to Watys this P.M. We two, the folks, Mable, Shelby, and Violet went to creek on Sheedys this P.M.

July 16

Feeling real bum today. Cleaned the house up. took off 11 chicks. cleaned out the setting nests.

July 15

Picked some berries along creek this A.M. Two hens hatching. Another hot day. Visited Violet awhile this P.M. Plowed some beans, helped to moil and separate.

July 14

Did the ironing and patched most all P.M. Yesterday was 95 degrees at city. Seems hotter today. Plowed beans and cucumbers this evening.

July 13

Did the washing. Some patching, helped to milk and separated. Mowed all the yard this evening. A real hot day. Dampened clothes.

July 12

Helped sprinkle all our beans for Beetles. Took off 39 chicks. Dug some potatoes. Cleaned out setting nests. Finished mowing yard. Worked in garden.

July 11

Cleaned chick coops and roosts off. Feeling rather bum. Worked in garden this afternoon. Went after cows and picked enough berries to can 2 qts. Helped milk and separate. Took milk and went to Mabel's and had cream. Chicks hatching. Hogs $5.55; Eggs 10 cents. Cream 12 cents.

July 10

Went to S. S. Velma, Emmas and Violet went too. We four went to Oak Grove to Jennie Jolly's funeral. Garland Fox and family were here this evening. Also Wanda and Ray. Raining tonite.

July 9

Dusted setting hens, cleaned up front room and went and helped Carrie cook for threshers. Hoed cucumbers, mopped kitchen, studied S. S. lesson and took a bath.

July 8

Helped do mornings work. Worked some button hoes and Violet and I went berry picking. Got about 1 1/2 gal. Read papers and mama P. came and we finished making her green dress. She gave me a J. C. Penny 25 cent dress. Helped milk and mowed some grass. Boys finished threshing wheat this P.M. Wonderful not to cook for them. Robert here tonite. Hoover, Roosevelt and Upshaw are pres nominees.

July 7

Did the ironing. Helped get some beets ready to cook to can. Velma was down today. Had lots of wind and rain just after dinner. A cyclone hit s. of N. Vernon and almost swept old Vernon off the map. Did some patching this P.M. and made a suit of underwear. Folks stopped on way home tonite. Robert and Violet came and took Ora and myself to Vernon tonite. Surely was terrible. Business section was utterely destroyed. Wanda and Ray were out tonight.

July 6

Did the washing. Helped ma T. finish remaking her black dress. Picked a few B. berries in garden. Reset some cabbage plants. Dampened clothes. Cut out a suit of underwear.

July 5

Still more rain and lots of it. Did mornings work and pulled some weds out of strawberry patch. Read papers and worked a little on mama's dress. Went to Jack Tobins funeral this P.M. Cleaned off chicken roosts and coops. Set one hen tonite. 

July 4

Rain and more rain. Mowed the yard this A.M. and cared for a baby Robin. Cats tore nest out of shade tree but we saved the bird. Put in a rat trap and hung on fence and old birds fed it all evening. Mama was down this P.M. and I cut a dress out for her. Harley was here awhile.

July 3

Went to Sun. school. Mrs Myron resigned and Ruth Haines was elected teacher. Ora and I went to Sara's from school. Ken took folks up this A.M. Raining this evening.

July 2

Cleaned all the house up this A.M. Dug a bucket of potatoes. Mama came down and brought my pillows, also 1/2 gallon of berries. Boys threshing this P.M. I plowed beans most all afternoon. Robert was here for supper. Folks all down tonite.

JULY 1, 1932

Did mornings work and worked in garden. Cleaned up the cellar and mopped it. Did a little more patching. Went fishing this P.M. Borgas have the thresher ready to go, and run some wheat thru this P.M. A strong, cool, west wind has blown all day. Two ducks left.

June 30

Worked a little in garden and did some patching this morning. Robert, Bill and his dad were here for dinner. I went up home this P.M. Helped mama put feathers in 5 new pillows. One pair is to be mine. Did a little work in garden this evening. We made a gallon of ice cream / prepared it and all went over to Hunnicutts. Robert brought ice, and we made 2 gallons of cream.

June 29

Did morning's work and started the ironing. A kettle of tar boiled over on stove. Had to stop and clean kitchen floor and porch, stove and irons. Finished ironing by 2:30 P.M. Did some mending and worked on mama's black dress. Mowed some more grass.

June 28

Boys carried back their wheat and reshocked it. Did the washing. Finished my dress and washed it. Mowed part of yard. Ducks still dying. Dampened clothes. Washed Ora's sheepskin, dad gave him.

June 27

Rained some in nite and has rained all day. I worked on my dress, remaking it. Wheat floating down stream as result of the flood this P.M. Bottom fields were covered with water.

June 26

Went to Sunday school. Went up home and visited with all of them this P.M. Rained at noon. Helped do chores as Ken and dad are up north. Robert and Violet were here tonite. Took mama 11 chicks.

June 25

Finished picking the strawberries. Cleaned up all the house. Made myself a new bonnet this P.M. Aunt Maude and family came this evening. The folks came down tonite. They took their chickens home. Left me the 5 and 2 more.

June 24

Cleaned out duck house and chick coops and roosts off. Put coal oil on roosts. Mowed some more grass. Went to North Vernon to Dr. this P.M. Picked some strawberries. Set 2 hens. Paid the second set of fire cards today $9.60. Heard that Jack wasn't dead.

June 23

Did a large ironing and some patching. Mama and kids were down this P.M. Helped her sew up 5 pillows, new ticking. Mowed part of yard. Gathered eggs out of barn loft. Heard about Jack Tobin's death. Losing lots of ducks.

June 22

Walked up home to tell mama that we wasn't going to the funeral. Planted lots of navy beans, pickles, butter beans and K. Wonders, and more kidney beans. Put tallon on chicken roosts. Made myself another apron. 'Tis the '32 depression apron made from 4 different colors of material. Plowed some in garden. Helped pick berries. Sara and Bob were here tonight.
